How Automatic SSL Works

December 13, 2025 4 min read 300 views Go Red Robot Team

Free SSL on your website

Every website on our Shared, Managed WordPress and Reseller hosting can use a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate, which gives your site the padlock and the https:// address.

Switching it on

  1. Log in to your control panel and open the website.
  2. Turn on Force HTTPS for that website.

That is all. Once Force HTTPS is on and the domain points correctly at your hosting server, a free certificate is requested and installed automatically, and visitors are sent to the secure https:// version of your site.

Renewal is automatic

Let’s Encrypt certificates are short-lived and renew automatically. You do not need to track expiry dates or renew anything yourself.

Not managed in the customer portal

Free certificates are handled by your hosting, not the customer portal — there is nothing to buy, renew or monitor there.

If the certificate does not appear

The most common cause is DNS. A certificate can only be issued once your domain points at your hosting server, so a domain that is still pointing elsewhere, or has only just been changed, will delay it. See Pointing a Domain to Your Go Red Robot Hosting.

If your DNS is correct and HTTPS still is not working, open a support ticket with the domain name and we will check it.

Need a commercial certificate?

Most websites never need one. If you have a specific requirement for a commercial certificate, one is available as an add-on — tell us what you need.
