Logging In as Your Customer

Logging In as Your Customer

When a customer says "I can't find the button", the quickest fix is to see exactly what they see. Impersonate logs you in to their account without their password, so you can look around or make changes for them.

Good to know

  • Everything you do counts as them. Anything you add, change or delete happens in their account.
  • It's all logged. Actions you take while impersonating show up in the customer's logs.
  • Suspended customers can't be impersonated. Unsuspend them first. See Suspending or Removing a Customer.

Step 1: start impersonating

There are two ways in:

  1. From the customer list: click Customers in the left-hand menu, click the three dots () on the customer's row, then click Impersonate.
  2. From the customer's page: click the customer's name, then click the red Impersonate button in the top right.

Step 2: look for the yellow bar

A yellow bar appears across the top of the page, saying You are currently impersonating followed by the customer's name and email. Your menu changes to match theirs, so you won't see your own Customers or Settings pages while it's there.

Step 3: go back to your own account

When you're done, click Return to admin on the right of the yellow bar. You'll be back on your own Customers page.

Shortcut: open a customer's website directly

On your Websites page, click any website that belongs to a customer. The panel logs you in as that customer and opens the website's dashboard in one go. The yellow bar appears, so you'll know it's happened.

Troubleshooting

  • There's no Impersonate option. The customer is probably suspended. Look for the red SUSPENDED label next to their name.
  • You can't find your Settings page. You're still impersonating. Click Return to admin.
