Moving a Website Between a Customer's Packages

Moving a Website Between a Customer's Packages

If a customer has two packages and a website ended up on the wrong one, you can move it across. There isn't a single button for this yet. Instead, you transfer the website to your own account, then straight back to the customer, choosing the other package on the way back.

It takes about two minutes.

Before you start

  • Take a backup. See Taking and Restoring Backups.
  • Check there's room. For a moment the website sits on your own reseller package, so you need a free website slot there. The package it's going to also needs a free slot.
  • Cloudflare gets disconnected on each transfer. If the site uses it, connect it again at the end.
  • Pick a quiet time, just in case.

Transfer 1: move the website to your account

  1. Click Websites in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the three dots () on the website, then click Transfer ownership.
  3. In New owner, choose your own account, marked Your organisation. Click Next.
  4. Choose your reseller package in the Package list and click Transfer ownership.
The Transfer website ownership window with your own account, marked Your organisation, chosen as the new owner.

Transfer 2: move it back onto the right package

  1. On the Websites page, the website now shows your account in the Organization column. Click its three dots (), then click Transfer ownership again.
  2. In New owner, choose the original customer. Click Next.
  3. In Package, choose the package you want the website on. Click Transfer ownership.
Step 2 of the transfer back to the customer, choosing which of their packages the website goes on.

Check it worked

  1. Open the customer and click the Packages tab.
  2. The website count should have gone down by one on the old package and up by one on the new one.
A customer's Packages tab showing the website now counted against the new package.

Troubleshooting

  • Your organisation has no package with room. You're at your own website limit. Remove an old test site, or contact us to upgrade your reseller package.
  • Email stopped working after the move. Email accounts move with the website. Check that they're listed on the website's Emails tab, and contact us if anything is missing.
